NHL star Crosby honoured with Order of Nova Scotia

THE CANADIAN PRESS

HALIFAX — Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has added a homegrown award to his growing collection of hardware.

Mr. Crosby, 21, became the youngest recipient of the Order of Nova Scotia on Thursday, which recognizes people who have made “significant contributions to the province and the country.”

Born in Halifax and raised in nearby Cole Harbour, Crosby was a hockey phenom as a child and went on to become the top pick in the 2005 NHL draft.

He was sixth in league scoring his rookie season and in his second year led the league in points with 120, including 36 goals. He captured the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league's most valuable player that year.

Mr. Crosby collected 72 points last season despite missing 29 games with an injury.

In 2007, Mr. Crosby became the youngest player ever named captain of an NHL team.

Mr. Crosby and five other 2008 recipients will be recognized at an investiture ceremony on Oct. 8 at Province House.
