    He has the charity game tomorrow.

    Once he returns to Europe he will be playing in the Pokerstars Euro tour in Barcelona starting September 10th and running till the 14th.

    My bet is that they report on how he does there as well.

    Training camp opens shortly after.... that should quiet the Sundin (no news) stories for a while.

    Seems almost incongruous with being the Captain of the Leafs to me...

    I didn't see the herald today but am equally floored if what you say is true...and I doubt you are lying.

    Poker makes perfect sense for Mats...he can play as well as he can but ultimately it takes a lot of luck for him to be a success. Kind of like his last few years as a leaf having nobody around him and a wonky management team. But will they introduce a timer with those events? I mean his decision making does take considerable time....even I can't resist making a little fun of the buds!

    Reading Ron Wilson's comments, one can ascertain that there won't be any warm and fuzzies coming from the coach towards Mats Sundin. If Sundin does play, methinks it won't be for the Leafs.

The only agonizing part is cutting the cord with the Leafs. He's left an impressive legacy, setting aside that they've never won a cup. He was a great Leaf, captain, impressive stats, consistency, what have you. But he knows the door to play on a competitive Leafs team while on top of his game has shut. That is now a sobering impossibility. team. So, rather than make the decision, he wants the Leafs to make it for him. Without Sundin in the line-up, and with those significant dollars and cap space available, look for the Leafs to blink first and move on to another high profile player. Shortly after, Sundin will declare the fire in his belly has returned - "where can I play now that my beloved Leafs have moved on without me, and who can blame them?...." says Mats. Not me, says Wilson. He can have the benefit of choosing his suitor, depending on team standings, player injuries, surprises, etc.

    Having Mats and Saku as your core, with Kovalev and Higgins all jacked up, hmmm....

    However, as Matts is now a spokesperson for Pokerstars, I cannot foresee that he will be heading to team managed by Bob Gainey anytime soon.

    Unlike Scott Loucks, I will admit that I could be entirely wrong about this, however... ;)

    R. Carriere suggested that around January the Leaf Nation would be aware that the Leafs weren't making the playoffs and they were used to Mats not being here.

    He would then comeback and play for another team.... probably one that didn't play in the ACC for the rest of the year.

    I think if he does well on Pokerstars.... he retires. If he doesn't.... he may well follow the path suggested by R. Carriere.

    You are correct..... I certainly have gained some fans this summer. My contract at Maple Leaf Foods was put on hiatus for 60 days... about 45 days ago.... so I have been bored :)
    And no I wasn;t cleaning the machines... :)

Last time I checked, he coached one of the most favoured teams to win the Cup for a few years, and they proceeded to bow out pretty early in each year. Amazingly, it was everyone else in the hockey world that questioned his team's leaders' ability to actually lead. In addition, last time I checked, he was the arrogant coach that went off on reporters when asked about a certain couple of guys' ability to be leaders. To question Mats leadership is highly dubious, and no wonder Mats is considering retiring, or worse, playing for another team. If this is what we have to look forward to, a snot nosed coach, then I can't wait until we get rid of him.

    All make more sense than two articles a week about nothing changing for Mats. The only thing, in my opinion, that has changed in Sundin's situation between a month before the trade deadline and today is that he used to be under contract and now he isnt....Sundin still believes in staying with the same team all year, he loves being a leaf, and he isn't sure about hockey anymore.

    Honestly, the ONLY reason I come to the sports page is to read what a select few (yourself included) are saying these days. Most times I skip the article and go right to comments!

    Fraid I have done a reversal on the draft pick question. Swifty from MTL convinced me.

    Still like the trades Cliff made.... only because I see White and Kronwall leaving the organization for draft picks sometime before Oct. 9th.

    The only draft pics I mind were the ones for Mayers and the 4th in the McCabe deal. I would have rather waited to see what offers might come about for him as injuries set in and power plays struggled. And for Mayers I am sure we will see similar talen come across the waiver wire once pre season is over.

    If things were as amicable as Bryan let on during his exit interviews then something should have been workable for him to play at the start of the season.

    I doubt it is going to hurt us....but those picks are a bit like having lottery tickets and every now and again they turn into a Kaberle (in Toronto's case)

    If creativity is your game (see Wellwood) than it would certainly make you a better player. Not if you grind it out though. Speaking of Wellwood - I always thought that could be his issue - seems like an introverted po-thead. Doesn't like to work hard, very creative with the puck...
    I digress...
    Hard to puff on-the ice when you play in net....my childhood was deprived.

    The only reason I would not support that is that its unethical but to rephrase it... I would NOT support spending money or making decisions that are about acquiring players to be good now or to make a run for a playoff spot. You end up in the same place I think!

    Just semantics I know but I will support and cheer a losing team but don't want the team to TRY to lose...actually we all know they can lose without much effort as it is.

    I was a fan during the 80s....it can't get much worse than that!

    And I think your answer lies within your question. If you are a fan, of any team, you will support them while losing. Making criticisms is ok...its part of being a good fan...jumping ship not ok!

    So the real question is...how many of us leaf fans ARE actually fans?

    And I am going to stop because I think I am starting to sound like I am the one smoking a little here...
