Sounds like a lot of sitting MPs don't have confidence in the CPC.
  2. Stan L from Canada writes: Makes you wonder......that's two former Liberals duped into buying into the 'CPC way', how many voters are feeling about the same right now?

    Which is it?

    All of them>?

  5. aging oldtool from Canada writes: Now if only Tony Clement and Jim Flaherty would join the rat parade.

Seems to me a good many Conservatives see the potential for a shift to opposition status as quite acute..

But who will be among the first not to quit but to pull a Belinda?

BTW, that looks like somewhat of a bemused smile on Harpos face in the background. Must be a bit disconcerning to find your troops are heading the other way just as the dream seems so close.
  6. jack sprat from Canada writes: 3 Cabinet Ministers and one MP with 20 years in politics don`t see harper as THEIR leader.

the rats are jumping, and fast.
  7. true conservative from Canada writes: aging oldtool - Clement won't leave politics. He bought his way into the ON PC and even they couldn't stand him. Rumour was that Milhouse was going to pushed out of the ON PC when he jumped to the CPC.

David Orchard wins Saskatchewan Liberal nomination

    Published: Friday, August 15, 2008
REGINA - David Orchard has been named the Liberal party candidate in a sprawling northern Saskatchewan riding after handily beating his rival - a former NDP MLA who was appointed to run in a March byelection that Orchard had sought to contend.

Orchard beat Joan Beatty Thursday night for the Liberal nomination in the riding of Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River.

Liberal Leader Stephane Dion appointed Beatty as the candidate in the March byelection, side-swiping Orchard's candidacy.

David Orchard won the Liberal nomination battle for the federal riding of Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River in Saskatchewan.

Orchard had been one of Dion's key Saskatchewan supporters in the 2006 Liberal leadership race. Frank Proto, president of the Saskatchewan Liberal Association, said Dion stepped in because of his promise to have more female candidates.

The appointment of Beatty also caused a major rift among Liberals in northern Saskatchewan and was seen as a factor in her decisive loss to Conservative Rob Clarke in the byelection

    ================================================

75-85% of the country hate Harper?

Recent polls show 36-38% CPC support, which if transfered into straight 'hate the PM' would be 64-62%.

    Other polls 31-35% support - 69 -65%.

In any event, we'll be faced with another minority, lame-duck government, either Liberal or Conservative, too afraid or handcuffed to make needed changes, lest they be ousted in a vote of non-confidence! They all still need their pensions!!!
  18. Bobby Dy from Canada writes: No surprise there. The CPC run 3rd in Thunder Bay. Defecting to the CPC guaranteed that he would not be re-elected. He almost lost to the NDP candidate last time. The riding will go LPC or NDP.

------------ a completely dumb argument, Ken, since these people crossed the floor AFTER Paul Martin announced he was leaving. More like Emerson was loyal to Martin only, and since Comuzzi left cabinet over same sex and caucus over the same issue, he was loyal only to his Catholic beliefs.

  40. Joe made no indication of his intentions yesterday in announcing some 2 MILLION Dollars of Fed-Nor Funding for NWO..Frankly I'll wait for the official announcement from the confirmed and only reliable source himself Joseph Commuzzi. His record as a conservative 15 MILLIOn for a molecular research lab 35 Million for the North of Superior marine conservation area 6.7 Billon infrastruce funding to Province part of which is for twinning of the transcanada hwy from Manitoba Border to Thunder Bay 1.5 Billion in Dollar transportation funding to the Prov enabling Toronto to purchase fast transit and bus coaches which are made here in Thunder Bay at the Bombardier Plant.Plus the multiple millions in Fed Nor fundilng. This is the first Federal Government in a long long time to pay any attention to this part of the country .Is it any wonder Joe thinks the current PM is the best one he has ever served under.By the way G&M Thunder Bay is in North Western ONTARIO. Sudbury, Timmins,Cochrane and North Bay are in NORTHERN ONTARIO GEEZ you people in Toronto are something else.
  41. Liberals Still Steal from hardworking families in, Canada writes: Swimming Pool 'Neocons, they are all alike. ' Really? Where did you find some? 'Neoconservatism was a political philosophy that emerged in the United States from the rejection of the social liberalism, moral relativism, and New Left counterculture of the 1960s. It represented a realignment in American politics, and the transition of some liberals to the right of the political spectrum; hence the term, which refers to being 'new' conservatives. The term neoconservative was originally used as a criticism against liberals who had 'moved to the right'. Michael Harrington, a democratic socialist, coined the usage of neoconservative in a 1973 Dissent magazine article concerning welfare policy. According to E. J. Dionne, the nascent neoconservatives were driven by 'the notion that liberalism' had failed and 'no longer knew what it was talking about.' The first major neoconservative to embrace the term was Irving Kristol, in his 1979 article 'Confessions of a True, Self-Confessed 'Neoconservative.'' Kristol's ideas had been influential since the 1950s, when he co-founded and edited Encounter magazine. Another source was Norman Podhoretz, editor of Commentary magazine from 1960 to 1995. By 1982 Podhoretz was calling himself a neoconservative, in a New York Times Magazine article titled 'The Neoconservative Anguish over Reagan's Foreign Policy'. Prominent neoconservative periodicals are Commentary and The Weekly Standard. ' Now where did you find any NeoCons? At the Democratic convention??
  42. Liberals Still Steal from hardworking families in, Canada writes: Lefties like saying 'NeoCon' becuse it sounds like it should mean something, but they're too lazy and stupid to look it up.

  62. Darryl Ainey from Canada writes: Why is it when someone (i.e Liberals Still Steal....)posts an intelligent response to an earlier post, the best that most of you clowns can come back with is Grade 2 schoolyard name calling?

    Why is that?

At least formulate a thoughtful, intelligent rebuttal, and have the courage and conviction of your beliefs to use your own real name.

It does your beloved political party no favor to show the lack of intelligence common amongst the regular and frequent party faithful posters here.

Harper may be far from perfect but are that blind or ignorant the the follies of your own heralded party?

    Now settle down children, LOL

  97. Liberals don't know their butt from hardworking families in, Canada writes: DG you think the government should run large surpluses on purpose?

Why would you think that would be efficient?
  98. D G from Canada writes: So how is Harper gonna pay down the debt more than? You are one of those classic cons who screamed about liberal surpluses being nothing more than us being taxed too much and now you commend harper for using it on the debt (much like the liberals did).

Problem is, without the surpluses, the debt doesn't go away that quickly and personally, I would rather see it paid off quicker even if it means paying the extra 2 cents gst for the sake of future generations.

Problem is, Harper's oh so brilliant gst cut has left us with no wiggle room.
  99. Liberals don't know their butt from from a hole in the ground, Canada writes: Swimming Poo 'Deny at all cost being a Neocon'

Yes I deny being a member or supporter of the US Democratic Party.
Why wouldn't I deny that? Hillary's just not my cup of sour.
Weird obsession you have with this small sub-group!
  100. Darryl Ainey from Canada writes: Swimming Pool, please, please, please, respond intelligently to the MANY posts directed at YOU!

It's like talking to someone with ADD who is overdosing on caffeine.

Do you just cut and past your brainwashed mantra? This isn't fun anymore, I think you may be living proof of the failings of public healthcare.

Sorry, but it has to be said
  101. Darryl Ainey from Canada writes: LIB, yes Vern, now there is a real piece of work.

Where did they find that wack job?
  102. Liberals don't know their butt from from a hole in the ground, Canada writes: D G ' personally, I would rather see it paid off quicker '

    I think that is admirable.

Now go to your party and tell them to make part of their platform an accelerated plan to pay off the national debt. It is entirely appropraite because it is all accumulated compound interest on money blown many decades ago. Make it party policy (never), campaign on it (never), win an election (not for at least eight to 12 more years), and then actually do it (libz never have kept a promise).

You have a few problems to work out to see your plan come true.
    Get to it.
  103. Darryl Ainey from Canada writes: No wonder the Liberals are in a free fall with these kinds of mouth pieces and their limited debating skills.

Really doesn't say much about the calibre or intelligence of people behind the party.
  104. Liberals don't know their butt from from a hole in the ground, Canada writes: DA 'I think [swimming poo] may be living proof of the failings of public healthcare.

Or the reality of 'devolution' caused when we save those who nature would have claimed long ago.

DA 'Where did they find that wack job [vern mcpartisan]?'

In the party boardroom. He could be Warren Kinsella!
  105. Liberals don't know their butt from from a hole in the ground, Canada writes: DA all the ones with common sense (Manley) are embarassed by the current nuts that have taken over the asylum.

Many dozens of thousands of the 'normal' liberals will stay home rather than support the wack-job tax increase and .. David Orchard!!!!!!!!!!!!! as a liberal MP!!!!!!!!!
  106. Darryl Ainey from Canada writes: LIB, I think we finally shut SP up. Either that or his office closes at 4:30.

If he keeps this sorry Liberal party PR effort up, his riding association leader will have to re-assign him to pounding in lawn signs.
  107. Trillian Rand from Canada writes: Some members decide not to run before every election so this is not big news. What must be of more concern is the effect on the shape of the possible government.

While little importance can be attributed to the resignation of a rarely heard from back bencher, we should be concerned when someone like Mr Emerson quits. He has been characterized as the most competent minister in Mr Harper's government. If this is so, his going will be a major loss to the party.

Mr Harper has had difficulty putting competent people into Cabinet posts. When the more senior Conservatives retire, he will have to appoint less experienced people (think Mr Bernier) to important posts. This will hardly make the job of Prime Minister any easier and will not encourage Mr Harper to work in a more hands-off way, as he could have in his second term with seasoned ministers.

So look for a second season with a lot of new faces on the bench and a lot of dropped balls until the new guys learn the play-book.
  108. Darryl Ainey from Canada writes: Hey LIB, why can't a Liberal with some brains run for Mayor of Toronto.

And the posters here think they have problems with the government, trying living in this city, with this local government....now THAT is embarrassing

Living proof of what happens when the uninformed are given the power to vote......not like they had any options though.

But I digress and am waaay off topic. No need to give the playground bullies fodder for their childlike and childish taunts
  109. Darryl Ainey from Canada writes: TR, that is the kind of intelligent talking point one would hope to find here. The unfortunate thing is that it can be said of ALL parties.

Most of the elected members seem like they are just here to line up at the public trough, and hope to serve long enough to collect their cushy, disproportionate pension!
  110. Eastern Ontario Robert Bythelake from Eastern Ontario, Canada writes: Glad to see that some of the ex Liberals who jumped ship to the Cons are going. Rats jumping ship..... storm brewing.....
