1 Payday Back at the beginning of the year, pay was soaring at the fastest clip in at least a decade. Now, annual wage increases in Canada have shrivelled to a one-year low – great news for inflation hawks, not so great for pay-hike hopefuls. Average hourly wages are 3.8 per cent higher than a year ago, a far cry from their 4.9 per cent jump early this year, according to Statistics Canada, which began tracking wage growth in 1997.
