Thoreau vs. Beavis

Tim, will you at any point during this campaign actually defend your government's plan for climate change?

Not the tax credits for public transit - your long-term plan to address the climate change crisis. The one that John Baird claims is the best plan in world history but won't cost any individual Canadian a penny (even though the plan itself acknowledges otherwise). The plan that the government has been "working on" for almost three years but that Baird won't actually share with Canadians (in terms of actual specifics) until after the election.

Will ya? Come on, there must be an environment staffer in the War Room who can write something up for you - no?

I think I have provided some fairly serious analysis on why I think the Tory plan is deeply flawed. But maybe I - along with every environmentalist and economist in Canada - are wrong. Defend it - or not.

In terms of the plane, Terry Milewski did a slightly more in-depth review of the environmental attributes of each of the campaigns on The National last night. Conclusion: The Liberal campaign is by far the most environmentally friendly of the three parties that are running full, national campaigns. (That's not a shot at the Greens - they just don't have the same type of a logistical campaign as the other three).

Now, no need to reply Tim, I will write your answer for you/the Tory war room: "CBC? Can't trust anything they say.....Dion's such a hypocrite...." (chest thumps all around in Tory HQ for coming up with such a witty retort).

  1. Amar Patel from Toronto, Canada writes: Rob, is it possible for The Globe to find a rational, well-spoken conservative who does not rely on logical fallacies for arguments to join in the debate? (They do exist, I hope, for their sake!)

I thought I would learn something about conservative ideology, but have just been disappointed. However, I suppose I learned that conservatives have nothing to rely on but ad hominem attacks and "are right" because "I say so". I mean, honestly, if Tim cannot understand the concept of carbon offsets and believes that Dion cannot be trusted because his party doesn't have a more modern airplane, then there's a dismal chance that he can string together a cohesive argument, much less write it out.

Your entries have been insightful and reasoned. Thank you.
