Canada to have Afghan role after 2011: MacKay

NEW GLASGOW, N.S. Canada will continue to play a role in Afghanistan even after the military mission ends in 2011, Defence Minister Peter MacKay said Thursday.
In an interview at his riding office in New Glasgow, Mr. MacKay said Prime Minister Stephen Harper's comment Wednesday about a firm end to Canada's military campaign is not a new government position.
“I was surprised by the reaction,” Mr. MacKay said.
