'Suicide is not an option'

MONTREAL — As a guidance counsellor at Sainte-Foy junior college in Quebec City, Bruno Marchand used to confront a grim reality: Self-inflicted death was part of life on campus, and one to two students committed suicide each year. "We were losing them. They were killing themselves - sometimes one, sometimes two a year," Mr. Marchand recalls. "We began to wonder if in Quebec, suicide wasn't just seen as too easy an option.
