  1. R. M. from Regina, Canada writes: Why would the Blue Jays NOT want to extend A.J.'s contract with the Jays????? Anyone out there with some insights on that????
  2. Travis Magee from Saskatchewan, Canada writes: 2 years of inconsistent health and play, 1 year of great health and overall pretty good play.

Burnett is hardly a known commodity, plus they let him go and they get 2 high draft picks as compensation, which is always a good way to build the farm for the future.
  3. Kipling Hedley from Victoria, Canada writes: AJ Burnett will win 20 games this season and that will be the catalyst for his returning--to do it again. Blue Jays may get a discount because he's comfortable. They also get the League leader in strikeouts--third in the Majors behind Lincecum and Sabbathia.
  4. Smokezz from Southern Ontario from Canada writes: R.M.: Perhaps read the article? The Jays never said they weren't willing to extend his contract. They said they weren't willing to get in a bidding war with other teams, which is a GOOD thing.
  5. Knowledge is True Opinion from Canada writes: BJ loves to have base runners. I can remember less than 5, three up three down saves. Always drama.

There is still a lot to play for this year. We can still BEAT THE YANKEES in the standings. That would be sweet, they can blame it on injuries all they want, they still suck. Especially with that ridiculous payroll.

  6. Scenic Sask! from Canada writes: Travis Magee - Forget the farm team, THIS is the future! The way the Jays have been playing since Cito returned they can win it all next year.
  7. mike mc from miramichi NB, Canada writes: Burnett and Doc are best one/two punch in baseball today. Burnett could have had over twenty wins if the Jays hadn't brought Gibbons back this year. His confrontational approach and constant juggling of line up were morale killers. Cito's ability to communicate and handle people has allowed Burnett and others on team to blossom. May also have saved JR's job for him. I like Burnett because he is a competitor who wants to win. Hope we get to keep him
  8. Sean O'Reilly from Kitchener, Canada writes: What great journalism. Nothing has been confirmed, but the sky is falling. Write this damn article when something has been confirmed.
  9. M V from Toronto, writes: Sean O'Reilly: The sky may not be falling but to step back and take an objective look at the Jays is to see a team that will be competitive next year but are unlikely to improve.

Heading into the final two weeks of this season, the pitching staff is a shambles, the offense still lacks a single 30HR/100RBI bat, and though the defense is tight, the 2009 Jays could be looking at an infield who's combined output is less than Ryan Howard's.

Yes, things COULD swing to a lot of lucky breaks: Vernon might play an uninjured season; Rios might decide to play with intelligence and intensity; Richmond & Purcey might be able to perform at a high enough level to replace McGowan and Burnett; Hill might return turn complete health.

That's a lot of variables that have to go right for the Jays to even have a sniff at a 90 win season. Just because it's possible that the Jays might improve doesn't mean it's probable.

(And to those who think Burnett will be playing in a Jays' uniform next year, I'll give 5-1 odds against it)
