Pat Billings from CDN, Canada writes: Second preseason in a row where Carle gets injured. Got to feel bad for the kid. Still, he should know there are idiots in every preseason game trying to make a name for themselves (last year it was Downie).
The team is basically already made except for 1 reserve roster spot that will go to Chipchura or Dandenault (or maybe Greg Stewart). Keep the kids for the weekend for a few more games and then play the vets for the final 3. Hamilton is going to be a strong team this year.- Posted 24/09/08 at 11:52 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

R Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Chipchura looked good last season in his NHL games IMHO... Would have also been nice to see a big forward like that in the Flyers series last year... Reminds me a bit of Bob Gainey as a player.
Where do you think that Pacioretty ends up this season ?

Howard Young from Canada writes: I know its pre-season and all but its sad to see more empty seats than fans in the stands of the Joe Louis. The Wings are the champs, they deserve a better turn out.

Dave The Rave from Ottawa, Canada writes: Wings are probably asking 'who is Cedric Desjardins'? Price drops twenty five pounds and stops 27 shots in his first two periods. Not bad.

Agreed Mr. Young.
I encourage all Windsor residents... Chatham.... etc... to get your butts over there and fill that arena.
While you are at it... bet on them to win the Cup again this year.... you will thank me.
As an aside... I believe Joe Louis is the biggest rink in the league. 20k plus? Even at 90 percent.... they are in the top 10 attendance wise.
Moving to Winterpeg... is that close to Detroit?

The Black Hawks and the Wild will be your most local teams, I believe...
Nevertheless, this year is the year that the Eastern Conference takes the big prize back...
I am predicting my Habs or Pens will do the deed -- although the Bruins are looking good too.

dc abrahamson from Japan writes: Scot, sometimes at Manitoba Moose games the fans still chant "Go Jets Go"....if you drink enough beers and squint your eyes...well, it may seem like the real thing...(and you may well get the chance to see Mr Wellwood if the Canucks drop him into the minors....)
Good for the Habs...will have to toss a coin this year if they play the Pens in the playoffs...

Bill Weston from Grand Rapids, MI, United States writes: Scot, its pretty early to be making Cup predictions but offhand I'd have to agree with you.. the Wings have to be the odds on favorites. I think Miller's going to have to wait awhile longer to see the Cup come East.
As for the terrible attendance last night to see the Wings and Habs in a matchup for the first time in ages, people have got to remember the state of the economy here in Michigan. Its not fair to blame the fans only. Michigan leads the nation in unemployment, home foreclosures, and the exodus of college/university grads. 76% of Michigan voters feel we're already in either a recession or depression right now. Add to that the fact that the Joe is almost right downtown in Detroit and its not a pretty picture.- Posted 25/09/08 at 7:16 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Richard McAdam from Halifax, Canada writes: Scott, Montreal's Bell Centre is the largest NHL arena, with a capacity of 21,273 (and it's filled every night). The Joe holds 20,066, good for second place I believe.
I hope that Carle will be all right. It's always scary to see a player get hauled off the ice on a stretcher. Coach Carbonneau said that he was going to travel back with the team, so hopefully this is a good sign. Also have to be concerned about Lidstrom--a puck in the face is not a good time.- Posted 25/09/08 at 7:54 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

EJ Ravensbud from Canada writes: You Hab fans are already peeing your pants and the season has not even started. Have you ordered your coins and stamps? Have you set up your chairs on St. Catherine to watch the parade? Have you made arrangements for grief councilling if the Habs lose? All these preparations to be made and so little time.

EJ Ravensbud from Canada writes: garlick, a real Habs fan would paint his roof right now and live with victory or defeat. Most Hab fans slink away in the night after a loss.

J M from Canada writes: EJ Ravensbud, I don' t post or read the comments often, but I can safely assume you are not a Montreal Canadiens fan, comments based on hope of failure, what will the fans do besides slink away, etc. The age old "plan the parade" comments are poor at best.
Ask yourself "Why do I bother" (with low brow generalizations - you know, "most habs fans this", "they always do that" crap)?
I can guess you are a fan of Leafs, Senators or Bruins in that order based on likely hood. Did I guess correct?
By the way, every Hab fan and any hockey fan will want the coins & stamps. Don't forget the Monopoly game, centennial brick, and at least one of the six retro sweaters.- Posted 25/09/08 at 10:34 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Jude Hannaford from Canada writes: JM
I know very well that this christmas Santa will bring me at least 2 of the above mentioned trinkets, to go along with all the other souveniers that bring a little class to my castle. I will gleefully show them off to the other kids on my block as we reminsce (sp) about the days when our teachers would read us "Une abominable feuille d'érable sur la glace" (much funnier title than Le Chandail frankly) on opening day. Sadly for Mr Ravensbud, he cannot feel the joy and bliss that being a hockey fan first and a team fan second. It must be very difficult to carry on in life, having an open mind closed by such animosity. As a church going man I will add Mr Ravensbud to my prayers, right in between my family and Les Canadiens.
