Actually, it may not be a bad to clip on the yuan. If you are old enough to remeber the japan yen in the late 80s and early 90s. It does not help anyone to float the dollar freely.

Poyan Nahrvar from Toronto, Canada writes: Congrats to China.
It is amazing the hostility from some Americans on this site towards a country that is essentially bankrolling their economy. These Americans should note that a space program is not really a sign of scientific progress. It is a sign of economic progress. Many countries have the scientific expertise to send people to space. But very few can afford it given that it produces nothing other than national pride and costs a fortune.
Furthermore, China has learned well from the American's experience with 'blowback' (look this word up it is important). That is why although they trade and talk with practically every country (including China's historical enemy 'Taiwan') they don't interfere in other countries' internal political affairs for imperialist gain. They realize that in the long run this leads to significant losses and setbacks and creates long-term enemies.

In fact, China has no choice but to buy US bonds as long as they hold the yaun down and export goods to America - that is their dependence.
There is no sign of them stopping this trend either. So I was a little sarcastic but Spring is a good sport and he knows it. I am still waiting for him to respond to my suggestions on the other thread on tainted milk today. Ditto for you, Rose.
To be perfectly honest, you remind me of teachers I had in elementary school who cared MOST about attitude before anything else of substance. Now, I really wished that I had saved the posts in which you traded insults with one 'Mr. Singh' a few days back. Even Spring fled from the thread in a hurry.
Now that was embarassing in my mind.
Okay so you don't appreciate me calling someone 'comrade', and I promise I won't use such words with you, acceptable? I mean, give me a list of 'forbidden' expressions and I promise I will screen them like the Golden Shield of China in my replies to you so how's that? Beijing's public 'neutrality' toward the Georgia-Russian conflict, however, should not be a surprise in that it has been the pattern in China's diplomacy since the 1980s. In almost all cases ranging from international crises (Korean Peninsula, Iran, Kashmir, etc) to bilateral disputes (the South China Sea with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the East China Sea with Japan, border settlements with Russia, Vietnam, India - in progress- etc), China has opted for dialogue and compromise, rather than confrontation or side-taking. The same operational principle has applied to difficult issues such as Hong Kong and Taiwan. (China negotiated with Britain for the ending of colonialism in Hong Kong in the 1980s.)

This is what Canada policy has been since the 1980s: **************************** CIDA: “Canada has an effective development cooperation partnership with China that provides a solid base on which to address shared interests. Since the 1980s, Canada has provided training and technical assistance through projects that have achieved meaningful results supportive of Chinese reforms and Canadian interests. Given the enormous size of China and its economic growth, CANADA DOES NOT PROVIDE FUNDS TO THE GOVERNMENT OF CHINA. Instead, we provide Canadian expertise to assist the country in undertaking reforms that China, itself, is implementing and funding. The cooperation program involves many Chinese and Canadian partners including government agencies, public and private sector enterprises, academic institutions, as well as community based and other civil society organizations. Take note on the “shared interests”, and that “Canada does not provide funds to the government of China”. Take note on “Canadian expertise” that means jobs for Canadians. Also take note on “China, itself, is implementing and funding”. Unlike personal donations, all countries that are providing aids always come with conditions and self interests. One great advantage of providing these aids to other countries is that we will be in the forefront to develop business opportunities as they arise. Yes, there are current projects to help minority and woman right, but again nothing to do with giving China money, other than supporting our belief on human rights. There are also one time programs like government matching donation for a specific disaster. I agree that we should get rid of some programs if we don’t believe in them, like the help to HR group that can afford a full front page ad on New York Times to encourage athletics to protest for them, travel first class and live in luxury palace.

Toronto Star: front page news, September 24, 2008 – Food alarms rang in ’05. Toronto Star/ CBC investigation; 3 years before outbreak, probe exposed trouble with public warnings and spotty inspections. Listeria bacteria also appear in our Cheese and mushroom. The 18 deaths would have been avoided if our government had acted three years ago. In China, there were some very bad people and some filthy enterprises did something drastic wrong for greed and profit and no doubt they will be severely punished. The Chinese government has acted swiftly and even expanded the scope of investigation. What has our government done with our food problem identified since 2005 and the recent 18 deaths? No one has yet been held responsible and our government is aiming for more industrial self govern. Posters here should push our politicians to act (with the upcoming election) and G&M should serve Canadians better to focus more on our issues so we do not live in glass house.

Actually, Perrier (which has a Cdn subsidiary) knowingly lied to its consumers about trace amounts to toxic chemicals in its bottled water. They tried to cover up the mess by claiming that only one production line was tainted when in reality several were. There are countless cases which prove corporate greed has no borders.

Your line of reasoning is very shortsighted and ill informed. China has attempted to acquire this technology by joining the international space program but this was vetoed by the US. Both Russia and China have pressed the US to sign a treaty limiting weapons in space but the US will have none of it. They seem to take pleasure in fueling arms races that flood the world with arms.
If China is protect herself from the belligerent US war machine she must develop her own space program. This is also a potentially lucrative industry and developing it now will lay a technological foundation that will foster growth and jobs for decades to come.- Posted 25/09/08 at 2:15 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Patrick the Christian Warrior from Canada writes: To all Christian Warriors out there, please pray with me: Dear Heavenly Father, I praise you for the beauty of your creations. You created the heaven and the earth in 7 days with your mighty hand, perfect in every way. The warmth of the rising run each & every morning reminds me of you. The changing of colours in the autumn reminds me of you. The stillness of a fresh snow fall and the cleansing that the cold brings reminds me of you. Every creature on earth you created is unique and perfect in their own way. Yet, you find favor in us. You created us in your image and allow your spirit to dwell in our bodies. Today is a special day for China, as the Chinese watched their rocket launched into space, 1.3 billion people cheered in triumph. But only a few will be able to share this joy of creation with you, the joy that you had when you created the heaven and the earth. Unlike your creations, our creations are far from perfect; they are dead objects without life. Please watch over our fragile machines. Give the Chinese astronauts the courage to walk in space and keep them from harm and bring them home in safety. I know the Chinese have sin against you in the past and you have stretched out your arm of righteousness upon them for over a century, similar to the Israelites. I thank you for not remembering their sins for too long and shower them with your blessings. You allow vast amounts of wealth flow into China to help her grow. You called upon millions of Chinese Christians to be your warriors. Somehow, you’ve forgotten the Christian Warriors in North America, people here are turning away from you. Greed and the self-righteous now rule the land. I beg you and please listen to our prayers. Help us by softening people’s hearts; help us with this financial crisis. Please keep the people in power from harm and give them the wisdom to lead us into financial safety. I prayed in the name of our Lord Jesus. Amen!

For all you CCP shills drawing parallels to the Maple Leaf Listeria outbreak, there's a big difference between an errant contamination during normal production processes and a criminally contemplated contamination. In every case of contamination of food imported from China, it has been proven as criminally contemplated and driven by their desire to make illegal profits at the expense of the health of consumers. Here’s a list of U.S. Food & Drug Administration Refusals of Chinese-made products and food shipped to the U.S. in August 2008 that would have otherwise killed thousands of North Americans:
