  1. Stephen Dedalus from Canada writes: Not to be facetious, but perhaps the GOP should've picked Monegan as McCain's running mate. If he's such a 'rogue,' as McCain's people suggest, perhaps a Maverick/Rogue ticket would've captured the hearts and minds of America. It'd be like having comic book heroes in the White House.

Okay I'm being a bit facetious.

'McCain operatives called Mr. Monegan a 'rogue' who repeatedly tried to work outside normal channels for requesting money.'

I guess if you're the one working outside normal channels you're a maverick (I just love the way Palin says that word), but if it's somebody else they're a rogue.

Really, in the larger scheme of things, so what. Ms Palin's stilettos are sinking deeper in the muck of ineffectiveness and she and McCain both will drift off to the history books before long. Let the state of Alaska deal with it and let's move on to something important.

Well, I guess refusing to go along with Palin’s vendetta against her ex-brother-in-law could be called “insubordination.”

  27. Paul F. from Toronto, Canada writes: Funny how someone is a 'rogue' when they are working against Palin, but a 'mavrick' when they are part of the team.

The weird drama that is the McCain-Palin ticket should be enough to convince most Americans that the safe bet on November 4th is the Obama-Biden ticket.

You know, in a weird, perverse way, the Bush presidency may have set the stage for Obama. I mean, Americans know what it is like to be lied to and treated like idiots for the last 8 years by politicians like Bush. There is a very much a Bush like quality in Palin.

Having a 'maverick' in power has worked out brilliantly, hasn't it? Spending a trillion dollars to convert a dictatorship in the middle east into.... a fragmented, sectarian set of statelets filled with mutual hatred and suspicion. Allowing the financial markets gamble themselves into oblivion and allowing no less than 3 more states to go nuclear (North Korea, Pakistan and India) under his watch. Can't wait to see how two 'mavricks' who know nothing of foreign affairs, the economy or much else take the reins of power.
  28. Paul F. from Toronto, Canada writes: Just one question.

Why is Palin doing most of her Governor business using a yahoo email account?

Isn't that a severe violation of legal requirements that state business be done on the official email?

Moreover, it has already proven to be a security risk, a hacker broke her password and posted her emails on the internet.

Why hasn't Palin got in trouble for this?

She has clearly demonstrated a basic disrespect for the rules that govern the integrity of the office. Why the hell would anyone trust her with the vice presidency?
  29. Bob McDonald from Canada writes: All politicians do this. They go into politics so they can HAVE power. They use that power to satisfy THEMSELVES, not the electorate. Oh, occasionally they do something for the electorate but usually that is done, really, to get re-elected. Listen to them - I have rarely listened to a politician that was being challenged that didn't talk like he/she was selling USED CARS. Palin blathers about nonsense when challenged. So does Biden.

Obama and Harper have NO platform. Why? So they can deny and invent when they get into office. The Republicans are expert at using the voters inability to tell the difference between blather and policy to make their opponents look bad. Thats why, only dumb people vote Republican/ NeoCon.

If you want to see the difference: read about Tommy Douglas. He was one of the very, very few politicians to go into the game with a trul;y people oriented objective. I'm not an NDPer but I dare you to name another, unsullied politician/ hero.
  30. Western Clods from Vancouver, Canada writes: But she's a maverick...and a maverick has to do mavericky things like not wasting time with mainstream bureaucratic things like commissions and investigations. It's better to just talk straight to the American people, say you didn't fire people you didn't like, wink, and leave it at that.
  31. George BrownIII from Christmas Island writes: Sam i am, from the worlds largest fools paradise, gotta give you credit, but wonder who else would, is your pis pot paid for in full?

  33. J C from Canada writes: Palin is a huntin' hockey mom...and she knows all about Russia because she can see Russia from her house. lol
  34. Rollo T from Belgium writes: We used to say that you could run a 'yellow dog' against a liberal, and the dog would win. I think that many Republicans indeed will vote for the dog, anything to keep their vested interests and the hell with America!
  35. D Epp from Canada writes: Too damn sad. That Sarah Palin should even be a contender.

Do the American public not even care that a candidate knows enough about world events? Do they not care how they look on the world stage? Do they not want someone who can evaluate world events and trends and come up with a solution that benefits all?

No. It seems they want someone who represents the 'wild west' of the oldentimes. Not someone who lives in the current age, with its derivatives, markets, and inflation.

    God help us.
  36. L B from Canada writes: I can see it now, palin, you all come and see me now, wink ,smile, goin back to alaska to get me a moose, and wave at russia sittin on my front porch.maybe later get me a grizzly.
  37. Patricia F. from Berlin, Germany writes: b.t.w. old dog from Delta, B.C., you would be sent to prison for writing what you did here...

Sarah Palin is a populist and an opportunist who will stop at nothing to get what she wants. This court case is clear evidence of that.

Let's hope that the GOP doesn't hijack the elections and that she slips into political obscurity soon.

If, however, they win, and McCain doesn't survive his term hence making her president (and has access to the nuclear codes), God help us all.
  38. Philip McRae from Vancouver, Canada writes: I wonder why they are pretending to have an investigation. She has been tried and found guilty by the liberal mob. Surely that is truth enough.
  39. Gord Lewis from Articulater Than Thou, Canada writes: Mrs. Palin isn't qualified to be a governess, never mind a governor. And whatever charms she may possess (they are few IMO) are immediately negated when she opens her mouth.
  40. Shawn W from Bremen, Germany, Canada writes: What the heck was John McCain thinking???

I have been over in Europe for a little over a week now and one of the major topics of discussion everywhere I go is the overall mess that is happening in the US financially, and this dimwit who has been tapped for the vice presidential position.

Sarah Palin is breathtakingly incompetent - but one feels a certain morbid fascination in watching her stumble through interviews and debates.

Please, America, do the right thing.
  41. Earl Anthony from Sudbury, Canada writes: A Democrat put in charge of this investigation is like putting a fox in charge of the henhouse. It is looking more and more like a witch hunt as opposed to a search for the truth.

So you all attack Ms. Palin for her lack of experience. Mr. Obama has even less.
  42. gerhard beck from Canada writes: Another little dictator. Apart from the facts that her husband was an active member of a separatist party, that she supported the bridge to nowhere and now wants to cover up that she ordered the dismissal of a state trooper who had the gall to divorce her sister, what could the USA expect from her as VP and in case of a disability of McCan't as president? A disaster not only for them but for the world. Could you immagine her hand on the red button and somebody somewhere in the world upsetting her feeble mind?
  43. A J from Canada writes: Philip McRae, it is the Alaska media that has pursued Troopergate in the most thorough way, with the media in the rest of the country picking up the basics of the story.

Alaska tends to be politically conservative, though in a kind of quirky independent way.

Why the public and media interest? Well, one reason is that Walt Monegan is a public servant who is well-known to Alaskans. He was a police officer in Anchorage for more than 30 years, including five as police chief. There are about 700,000 people in Alaska, and 40% of them live in Anchorage. Alaskans know this man and his work; he is not a faceless bureaucrat to them.

Thus, while Palin was a popular, newly-elected, governor, Monegan was a popular, long-time, well-respected public servant in law enforcement. Alaskans were obviously troubled by the firing, and wanted to know what happened. Hence, the bipartisan support for a legislative investigation. And hence Palin's initial declaration that she welcomed the legislative investigation and that she and her staff would cooperate completely.

Palin has backed out of cooperation with the investigation, and the McCain campaign is doing everything possible to prevent any further investigation or reports before Election Day. So much for her confidence that the investigation would show that she was justified in firing Monegan.
  44. Duane Freemantle from writes: It is quite disturbing when people try to paint this a the Democrats going after Palin. The investigation was starting in June with Palin's blessing, now that she is McCain's running mate she is making excuses. The investigation will not hurt Palin as governor of Alaska, but will hurt McCain as presidential candidate. Why? This show McCain poor judgement, and the reason that the Palin's are attempting to stop the investigation. The report should be ready by Friday October 10. Unless, the Alaska supreme court stops the reports, we will know the truth.
  45. A J from Canada writes: Earl Anthony, where do you see the 'witch hunt'? So far, the independent investigator who was hired for the job by the unanimous decision of a bipartisan legislative committee has been working on getting the witnesses to testify under oath.

Several state employees who did not want to comply with subpoenas have now decided to do so, because of the ruling of the state supreme court.

Is that the witch hunt, that state employees are compelled to testify under oath about what they know or what they did?

The more transparency the better--so a public report to the legislative committee is good, as is public testimony under oath.

Then, if Gov. Palin believes she sees evidence of a 'witch hunt'--such as perjury or unsupported conclusions--then she can set the record straight in her own testimony. Oh, wait...she doesn't want to testify, not before Election Day.

Palin's record as a mayor and as a governor suggest that she has some serious problems with abuse of power. The Troopergate investigation, as a bipartisan legislative initiative, offers one of the best opportunities there is for a fair evaluation of whether or not there was an abuse of power by Palin. This is information that Alaskans want, and it is also information that will be of use to voters in the rest of the country.

It doesn't surprise me one bit that she wants the investigation to be done by people she has the power to fire. But, then, I think Palin's conduct shows she's got plenty to hide from public scrutiny.
  46. Cubby . from Ontario, Canada writes: Gord Lewis from Articulater Than Thou, Canada says:
'Mrs. Palin isn't qualified to be a governess, never mind a governor'

Agree completely unless you want your kids saying betcha, gotcha, nucular, etc. and shuckin' and jivin' like flim-flam artists. Ick.

    Earl Anthony:
Obama has the same experience as at least a couple of previous US presidents, Lincoln and Pierce. Even beyond that he likely has more intellectual firepower in his pinkie than the female Atilla from Wasilla has in the entirety of her being.
  47. Philip McRae from Vancouver, Canada writes: A J from Canada, I guess you'll say just about any amount of nonsense to justify your little attacks on Palin. Personally, I saw a much better investigation and a Democrat State Representative admitted that Palin had a 85% approval rating as Gov. but once she went for V.P. under McCain orders came down to dig and attack. Alaskan Democrats are following Dean the machines orders. And it looks like the Alaskan Superior court ain't none too happy. So far they managed to get her approval rating down to 65%. They got this Democrat on video interview so I wonder how the State and the Alaskan taxpayer likes paying for Deans politics. It will be interesting to see if anyone gets indited for false charges.
  48. gordon davies from Victoria B.C., Canada writes: If they wanted a practiced smiling teeth gritting woman trying to prove possession of bigger balls than the boys , they got one . But cute.
  49. J W from Canada writes: I don't care what happens with this inquiry. It won't change the fact that Palin isn't qualified to be Vice President-not even close. Its ridiculous that people have even entertained the notion. All I really want is for Palin to stop saying 'Maverick' it makes me angry every time for some reason.
  50. Just Hmmm from Canada writes: Its all a moot point. She is going to be a comedic footnote in the history of US politics. If I could lay a bet on it right now I would bet against her being re-elected governor in Alaska. I would also bet that she doesn't ever see the stage of a national Republican convention again.

She might try and run for President in 4 years but the old, white guys of the Republican party will take off the kids gloves that the media and Democrats are hitting her with and get right down to a good ol' back alley beatdown.
  51. Soup Campbel from Calgary, Canada writes: Dear Philip McRae - You sound desperate buddy.
  52. Thomas D'Arcy McGee from Canada writes:
Desperate to change the media narative from the McBush smoking ruin of an American economy and the cartoon figure McCain has chosen as his VP candidate, the Rupgnants have unleashed Sarah Palling's inner pitbull to attempt to resuscitate the Obama Is A Terrorist smear that failed a few months back.

Fox News has been on it non-stop for the last 48 hours and Sarah Bush-In-A-Skirt keeps yammering about it endlessly.

It's another hail-mary pass by John 'Did I Mention I Was A POW?' McCain and the rapidly disappearing Republican party.

This will work about as well as the Alaskan Hockey Mom gambit and the I-Must-Suspend-My-Campaign-and-Rush-To-DC-To-Save-My-Country's-Economy scam.

    Three strikes, 'yer out John!

Oh wait, were you trying to be serious? Sorry.
  54. Susan Rogan from Canada writes: The largest demonstration in Alaskan history was held about 3 weeks ago in Anchorage. It was an anti-Sarah Palin rally in which Alaskans tried to tell the world that she is a bully and not at all prepared for the responsibility of being VP of the USA. I sent photographs to my email list. Try to google it.

'Mr. Monegan says he was dismissed because he wouldn't fire the governor's former brother-in-law, but Ms. Palin contends he was dismissed for insubordination.'

  56. Susan Rogan from Canada writes: Just one issue for instance. Sarah Palin is against sex education and against birth control. Results? Her 17 year old daughter is pregnant, ('daddy' calls himself a 'F*&kin' Redneck' on his Facebook account), and Sarah just gave birth to a Down's Syndrome baby at age 43. She's trying to do right with the situations on hand, but a little bit of education and birth control may have been in order here.

This legislative investigation has been underway since long before Palin was named as VP nominee. The initiative has had bipartisan support from the beginning, and it even had Palin's support at the beginning.

This investigation wasn't instigated by people outside Alaska for some dark motive.

On the other hand, Philip McRae, if you unquestioningly support Republicans in the era of Bush, Cheney, and Rove, then I can see you very possibly do believe that everybody in the world acts solely out of cynical political motives.

'Soup Campbel, hey nimrod. I sound just like the people I'm answer. If it sounds desperate to you think how whinny and desperate you sound to me. '

Philip, even your insults are pathetic.

Do you even know what a nimrod is?
    Do you have a dictionary?
    Look it up.
  83. bruce weaver from Canada writes: Say all you want about Palin but she took money from the oil companies and gave citizens of Alaska $1800 each to help with rising fuel costs. On the other hand Biden and Obama take from the citizens to give back to government.
  84. A J from Canada writes: I can certainly understand why Palin is spending so much time talking about Obama 'palling around with terrorists' this week. There is one more court decision that will determine whether the Troopergate report goes to the legislature, or not--and if that report goes in, I just betcha she wants to create as many distractions as possible, in case she loses that case and the investigation moves forward.

And in the Sarah Palin Also Category of distractions: the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a senior policy adviser in the McCain campaign, has said that the way McCain will make his health care tax credit budget neutral is that McCain will make major cuts to Medicare and Medicaid.

The total cuts will be $1.3 trillion over ten years.

This news is not going to go down well with voters who rely on these programs, or hope to do so when they retire.

Palin is going to have to talk mighty loudly about what Ayers was doing in the 1960s if she hopes to drown out this news in states like, say, Florida and Pennsylvania.

  85. Philip McRae from Vancouver, Canada writes: Thomas D'Arcy McGee, ya dork. I know who Nimrod was. And I know what it means in Hebrew. With a little adjustment it is what you are. A troll. Someone who hunts around the threads pouncing on posters rather than giving substantive opinion.
  86. Soup Campbel from Calgary, Canada writes: Philip McRae - I LOVE that you think your own opinions are substantive.
  87. Philip McRae from Vancouver, Canada writes: A J, I don't support any Republican. I just like going after the dorks who have done less than Sarah Palin, and mock and knock her to elevate themselves in their own eyes. I give the woman the credit she is due. Whether someone votes for her or her party is no concern of mine. Though I did notice that the same people that are belittling Palin are all Dion supporters.
  88. joe garcia from Canada writes: Phillip, so you must be the owner of that 1976 AMC Pacer with B.C. plates and a bumber sticker that reads:

    'Cariboo NIMROD for VP'
  89. Philip McRae from Vancouver, Canada writes: Hey soup bone pouncer, why not post your own rather than piggybacking on others. No mind of your own. Did I say mine where substantive? No. So what have you got but more empty accusation. Not substantive are you.

Obama has opened up an 8-point lead according to Gallup and Rasmussen, the two largest-sample polling firms on RCPs PollOf Polls.

John McBush and the Disasta From Alaska are desperately flinging the smears in a last-gasp attempt to change the subject from the economy, or what's left of it.

She's accusing him of 'pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country', a reference to William Ayers, whom Obama knows from Chicago community work and who has donated to Obama's campaign.
A former member of the Weather Underground, Ayers has never been convicted of anything, let alone terrorism.
Yet the Republicans and their media mouthpieces, Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter continue to call him a terrorist.

Well at least he's never participated in the bombing of the civilian population of Vietnam, as McCain did.

Deperate measures from a losing campaign.

We all can see it now, thanks for the little tid bit.
