Volatility rocked North American stock markets Wednesday, as investors considered whether a co-ordinated rate cut by six central banks would be enough to avoid a prolonged economic slump. In Toronto, the S&P/TSX recovered from an opening loss of 2.57 per cent, then alternated between gains and losses throughout the day, to end 2.3 per cent higher. It gained 225.84 points to 10,055.39.
