Just eight bus passengers have come forward: health officials

Canadian Press

TORONTO — Ontario health officials say they're not alarmed that only eight of 27 passengers on a bus that carried a rider infected with tuberculosis have come forward.

An appeal was issued one week ago for 27 passengers of Greyhound bus trip 0367 from Toronto to Detroit on Aug. 31 who disembarked in Windsor, Ont., to get tested.

Health Ministry spokesman Mark Nesbitt says the eight people are being assessed as to whether they need an actual skin test, similar to one for allergies.

Mr. Nesbitt says test results take two or three days to confirm.

He says there's no immediate concern because it takes three to eight weeks after possible exposure for the test to be worth doing.

Mr. Nesbitt says the ministry continues to appeal to the other 19 passengers to contact their local health unit or call their hotline at 1-866-532-3161.
