Canada's surprising job growth gives a hint of resilience

OTTAWA Canada's economy is taking a drubbing because of the global financial turmoil, but new employment data suggest the country is facing the worldwide downturn from a position of strength.
Canadian employers turned a blind eye to the mounting financial turmoil in September and hired a record number people for a single month, adding 107,000 new jobs, according to Statistics Canada.
