Market turnaround bid fizzles

North American stock markets attempted a late-Friday comeback from massive earlier losses, but were pushed back down in another losing session as the world's most powerful financial leaders met in Washington to consider solutions to the global credit crisis.
The Dow Jones industrial average closed its eighth consecutive day of losses down 128 points, to 8,451.19 points, or 1.5 per cent.
