Over the past two months, our Breaking Through series has chronicled the lives of people living with mental illness, including students, comedians, authors, lawyers, mothers, and many more. The message of many of these ordinary people is that recovery is possible, but that stigmatizing the mentally ill is the major social barrier to recovery.
The Mental Health Commission of Canada is a federal organization charged with building a national mental-health strategy and helping lead the fight against stigma. Its COO, Louise Bradley, will explain the MHCC's mission and take your questions on mental health in Canada.
As Chief Operating Officer, Louise Bradley is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC). Louise brings a wealth of experience in health administration and mental health to this position.
Prior to joining the Commission in February 2009, Louise was with Alberta Health Services, most recently as the Vice President and COO of Regional Mental Health, Capital Health, Edmonton. Before that she was Senior Operating Officer at the University of Alberta Hospital. Originally from Eastern Canada, Louise directed Mental Health and Forensic Services in Halifax and Corrections Health Care for Nova Scotia.
Louise is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Nursing from Dalhousie University and a Master of Science (Nursing) from Northeastern University, Boston MA. She is also a Certified Health Executive, a Surveyor with Accreditation Canada and an Associate Professor, University of Alberta, Faculty of Nursing.
