MONTREAL -- Police in Montreal are cautioning people to beware of door-to-door solicitations of money for the victims of the terror attacks in the United States.
A Montreal charity, Sun Youth, said that two people knockedon doors in west-end Montreal over the weekend, saying they were collecting funds for the orphans of New York on behalf of the charity.
Sun Youth does not canvass door to door and has filed a complaint with police.
The incident appears to be an isolated one in Canada but reflects similar scams being attempted in the United States.
There are reports in the United States of a small number of bogus e-mail solicitations aimed at collecting money. The American Red Cross has raised the alarm about phony Red Cross Web sites and e-mail campaigns.
