Is it not painfully obvious that America's military might is the greatest of all terrorists? Are not a million Afghanis fleeing their land in terror of the United States?

Regarding pilots carrying guns, perhaps instead they could have a sleeping-gas system in the passenger compartments of the aircraft, with fresh air masks for pilot and co-pilot to be used at the first sign of any attempt to take over the plane. The cabin crew could have a silent alarm or the pilots could have a video monitor of the passenger compartments.

The arrest and strip-search of a female security officer seems to be an abuse of police power. This officer was doing what she was paid to do. How will the next security officer react when seeing a person dressed as a policeman in an airport?

The Taliban regime has influence in Pakistan, a state that has nuclear bombs. It is entirely predictable that the Taliban or a terrorist group that it supports it will steal a nuclear bomb from Pakistan and use it. Americans have two choices: Invade Pakistan immediately - under the excuse of dealing with the Taliban - and seize the nuclear arsenal and reduce the "Candu" reactors to rubble. We could use special forces to clandestinely disable nuclear weapons and destroy the Candu reactors - blaming the Taliban. Or we could force Canada to take moral and financial responsibility for spreading nuclear weapons by sales of atomic reactors. I would sleep better at night knowing Pakistan reverts to non-nuclear status.

The speech given by U.S. President George W. Bush on Thursday will go down in the history books. It was a great speech. Still, Canada's efforts and losses were overlooked. Canadians feel the same pain as the Americans do, concerning the loss of human lives. We may not be part of the United States, but it was a great loss for us also. We no longer feel safe, and we too feel much sorrow. Mr. Bush said something about Canada being a brother, but wouldn't a brother be grateful for help he had received and make a gesture of friendship?
