You are doing a terrific job of keeping us informed. However, I do not see the point of posting the FBI photos of those men who are suspects. I think the faces add an unnecessary dimension of reality that does nothing but haunt us.

Perhaps it is time for Western countries to carry out a more quiet intervention. We do not have to broadcast our might and strength. We can investigate calmly and diligently. This is going to take time. I hope that the powers that be are investigating all avenues and that all people on these flights were checked out to see if there is a link between those already identified and anyone else.

Something in the seventh picture in your photo essay Four Days in September documenting the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, showing the aftermath of the collapse of the first tower, caught my attention (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/PhotoGallery/Archive/images/attack-4days/close_firsttower.jpg). I noticed in the smoke and dust the outward shape of a man's chest, arms, shoulders, face and beard, and then I was astounded to see the shape of a turban on top of what appeared to be a man's bearded face. I showed it to my 10-year-old son, who didn't see the image at first, but when it was pointed out to him, he exclaimed, "That's bin Laden!" I was wondering if I was the only one to see a portrait of a man etched in the cloud of smoke.

Regarding the Ipsos-Reid survey regarding the way Prime Minister Jean Chrétien is dealing with the terrorist attacks: I listen to many talk radio stations, and the general opinion is that the PM is doing a terrible job. Where on earth did Ipsos-Reid's figures come from? I don't honestly believe this is what the general public thinks. I think Mr. Chrétien is a disgrace.

The article on the meaning of jihad was extremely interesting to this American living outside of Boston. Although I am not Muslim, I have read English translations of the Koran and much of the article is easily supportable - references would have been extremely useful and enhanced the credibility of the piece greatly.

The real threat to terrorism lies in a much greater capacity to disseminate intelligence and to infiltrate these terrorist cells. A military show of force will prove abundantly wasteful and again put to risk an incalculable and unnecessary number of lives.
