Reactions to the attack on America
Jason Henrikson objected to publishing the pictures of the suspected terrorists (letter -Oct. 1). But the haunting effect of the pictures, though they are of only suspects, provides a sense of reality that is necessary in times like this. People cannot be blind to the reality of the situation. Shying away from the realities of the world can create only a more distorted perception of the truth.
A. White, Ottawa
The one thing that must come out of this horrible event is that we must rid ourselves of this addiction to oil.
Mick Taylor
I look at the events of Sept. 11 like the fight between David and Goliath. The terms of war have changed again.
Timothy Nash Johnston
I burned an American flag today. And it felt wonderful.
C. Stevens
With the irrational things I have been seeing people do and say regarding this disaster, I am beginning to wonder if maybe these attacks were a favour. I hope there will be more in time to wipe out the mindless, hypocritical population on this continent. I don't think we deserve to live.
J. Suzette
We must not pressure the United States government to immediately present definitive proof of guilt concerning the suspects in the Sept. 11 terrorist attack. It takes time to assemble a case for court. The principles here are the same although the crime is horrific.
Bob Hinchcliffe
We all suffer from the attacks, each in our own way. I just thank God to have such a great country on our borders as Canada. I have always enjoyed my trips to my neighbour over the border and hope to continue them for many years to come. I cried watching Canadians singing our national anthem.
Marilyn, Michigan
A few months ago, The Globe and Mail published statistics about how much Canadians know about their own history. The results showed that many don't even know how many provinces Canada has. How can these Canadians know any history relating Islamic countries?
Sara Humbolt
I fervently hope that Canada does all it can to help in this time of need. God help us all if we don't band together to stop these terrorists.
Patsy, Canada
The terrorist attack upon the United States will end up destroying the whole world.
Sarah Joan Swan Lavallee
Terrorists looking for a possible target, perhaps in Canada, had only to watch the CTV National News of Sept. 30 for their answer. The possible effects and repercussions were outlined with the help of a retired armed-forces individual. This report is irresponsible journalism.
Jim Franchuk
With all that has been going on during these past few weeks, it almost seems ludicrous that celebrities are taking such extreme precautions to protect themselves. From what? What makes them think that, in the grand scope of the world, they are important enough targets for a terrorist?
D. Porter
Why hasn't U.S. President George W. Bush attacked yet? I realize that this problem needs a lot of careful thought, but the longer the United States waits, the greater the chances of more attacks.
Mark Doherty, Canada
