How your life has changed since Sept. 11? I am amazed that so many people think the Americans and we are doing a good thing in Afghanistan. We are doing nothing of the sort. To think that we are going to wipe out terrorism by wiping out Osama bin Laden is just plain idiocy. I would also like for those who called the attack on September 11 as a cowardly act to start to actually think before they talk. They go on saying that whoever could kill so many people must be crazy or even worse. The Americans and the rest of the free world support the killing of innocent people every day in countries such as Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The only difference between the two is that on Sept. 11, many people were killed at one time. Also, let's start to think of how many of the suicide bombers actually came from Afghanistan: none. They all came from countries where we allow their children, parents and friends to be killed, imprisoned, and otherwise beaten or ostracized for views different than those of the ruling elite, whom we support for free-flowing oil. We should be ashamed of ourselves. Before we pat U.S. President George W. Bush on the back for a job well done, let's ask him why we don't demand democratic governments all over the world, and maybe then we can take the incentives away from lost souls who find terror as the only recourse to have their situation noticed. Let's demand a real war on terrorism; let's give freedom to the people of the Middle East. Let's demand democratic governments in Saudi Arabia, Jordan and all other countries in that region. This is the last thing that people want to hear, but the United States brought this war on itself. The U.S. government tells other countries how they should be run. It is not America’s place to be doing this. Why doesn't the United States deal with its own country? This has affected my life because Canada is so closely tied to the United States. Many people see the United States and Canada as one country; we are not, but that doesn't mean that if the United States does something stupid, what’s to say terrorists won't come after us because of our ties? The U.S. government thinks only of itself and no one else. I am disappointed to see that that the sailing of the Canadian ship from Halifax recently did not warrant even a small blurb from your CTV network. So much for the news at home. I guess the 245 men aboard HMCS Toronto and their families are really not important enough news to be reported to the rest of Canada. The response of the Western Alliance is sad, so very sad. Violence will never bring about peace. When will we learn? The big banks are making money out of this — from both sides. They and the military want this war. |
