Has my life changed? Not really. New York is one of the great cities of the world and my family will continue to enjoy its culture and allure for many years to come. We cannot let the terrorists and murders make us live in fear. Too many Canadians have already sacrificed their lives in other wars for us to look the other way.

I think U.S. President George W. Bush said it well when he said that we have become sadder and less innocent since Sept. 11. I see things a little more emotionally - awful statements and attacks against other cultures or races, the plight of refugees and poor people around the world, the people who have lost family and friends in New York or the Pentagon (or anywhere else for that matter), all touch me a little more deeply now. Some of the cavalier attitudes of letters before mine trouble me greatly. We cannot expect that grinding poverty, human-rights abuses and other atrocities are acceptable if it is not happening in our back yard. I don't think that we should go around imposing our idea of "right" on the rest of the world, but neither should we be encouraging or participating in the oppression of other people. Although I have often been critical of the United States, I very much support what it is doing right now. Peace.

I have recently returned to Canada after living in Malaysia for the past four years. I fly very often and am wondering how yet another air crash has been possible, whether it be an accident or terrorism. With the Sept. 11 tragedy, I'm sure all air security has been stepped up. However, I hope air officials still keep an eye on safety and aircraft maintenance as well. I hope the current terrorism scare has not distracted attention away from other important factors in air safety.

After another plane crashed on Nov. 12, people are scared to fly. I'd by nervous flying today. I haven't been on an airplane since 1990. My husband and I drove to Atlanta in 1992, and haven't been anywhere since. We were going to try to get away next year for our wedding anniversary, but I'm not so sure right now. His mother is from Yugoslavia and has been here four years. We would have liked to send her home next summer and take my son with her, but there's no way I'd let him go with her now. My mom was also going to go to California to see her sister this Christmas, but she's scared to fly alone like she did three years ago. I hope and pray every day there's no more terrorism or plane crashes.

I am more careful about what I have in my purse, where I eat and who is next to me. I also pray and love more. I think more often that crazy people with a lot of anger can be on the street next to me, so I watch where, how and for how long I am in a place. I am polite - most of the time- and careful and honest with everybody.
