The United States should support the Revolutionary Women of Afghanistan, who should have a say in the establishment of the new government. They are a strong, organized group that needs to be heard. Perhaps this will help women regain some rights.

The United States should support the citizens of Afghanistan in any way it is able. The United States didn't give a tinker's damn about the Taliban and, in fact supported them during their war with the Soviet Union. The United States didn't care about the human-rights abuses in Afghanistan, and still doesn't. President George W. Bush has now implemented every kind of executive order and pushed through any kind of legislation he can — not to prevent future attacks, but to bring about the systematic removal of freedom of the citizens of the United States. This is a rare opportunity for a Republican administration that stole the presidential election. The events of Sept. 11 create that opportunity.

At this point, the coalition should continue until everyone is completely sure that all members of this terrorist organization, the Taliban, are dead or in prison. Then continue to help build a better country for the Afghan people. Remember, however, that these people can turn on them at any time — there are far too many different ethnic groups there.

Hunt them down with any and all means at our disposal. Do not stop until the last member is dead or brought to justice. This will help to avenge our loss and send a message to other would-be terrorists that you don't mess with the United States or the rest of the free world.

The destruction of the country should be halted. A new coalition government chosen by the people of Afghanistan should be formed, but this government should not be a U.S. puppet regime. This government should have the best interests of the war-ravaged country in mind, not those of the Western powers, which may have other, less pure, motives. Then there should be a clear and steady effort to rebuild a nation that has seen more than two decades of bloody conflict. This effort should ensure that every member of the nation has a chance for survival.
