I have been a Globe reader for almost half a century. It began because my father brought the paper home with him every day from work. For the first couple of years of doing so he couldn't even read it! My parents immigrated from Naples, Italy in 1956. I was two, and though Dad could not speak English, he would browse the paper on his daily commute to downtown Toronto to work. By the time I was five and could read, my Dad and I would look over the headlines together. By the time I was ten, he was deeply into the op-ed section and the sports pages. This daily routine continued until he passed away three years ago.
My Dad is gone now and I live in rural Eastern Ontario. Unlike him I cannot walk to the corner to buy my Globe. None the less http://www.globeandmail.com is my homepage and whether I am in Kingston, Ontario or Sennelager, Germany I start each day with a look at your headlines. It gives me the national perspective I need and it reminds me of my Dad.
