A young Afghan refugee pleads with Pakistani police to be allowed to go with his mother to the hospital after she fainted in a temporary detention center in the Pakistani town of Quetta, near the Afghan border, Tuesday Sept. 18, 2001. About 400 refugees who crossed into Pakistan from Afghanistan fearing American retaliation after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the U.S., were later transferred to a nearby refugee camp.
