The Winnipeg Blue Bombers say raunchy photos of women who appear to be members of their cheerleading squad are several years old and include only a few current members of the Blue Lightning dance team.
The photos appeared online recently on several U.S.-based sports websites, including deadspin.com and thebiglead.com.
In several photos, the women are partially undressed, and in one a woman is dropping her pants in front of the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill.
"The pictures, both unauthorized and not endorsed by the Blue Bombers franchise, were property of a former member of the Blue Lightning team, who has not had an affiliation with the organization since the end of the 2006 season," the Bombers said in a statement yesterday. "The football club has addressed this matter with the entire organization, including the Blue Lightning, and will act accordingly.
"Many of the photos are dated, from no later than 2005, and involve individuals who no longer have a connection with the franchise or have never been affiliated with Blue Lightning at all."
This is the second time Internet photos of current or former CFL cheerleaders have caused a stir. Two years ago, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats suspended two cheerleaders after suggestive photos of the pair appeared on the Internet from an appearance on The Howard Stern Show.
