CFL Week 3

From Thursday's Globe and Mail

THURSDAY

Calgary Stampeders (1-1) at Montreal Alouettes (2-0)

The matchup: One week after surrendering 448 passing yards to the Edmonton Eskimos, the Calgary defence will try to stop the league's top attack. Montreal has looked like a well-oiled machine under new head coach Marc Trestman, scoring 71 points and jumping out to big leads in successive wins over Hamilton and Winnipeg.

Toronto Argonauts (1-1) at Edmonton Eskimos (1-1)

The matchup: The Argos continue to play guessing games at quarterback, but whoever is under centre will have to improve on the team's early-season average of just 1.5 offensive touchdowns a game. The Eskimos like to throw the ball, which is a better matchup for Toronto's defence than the heavy running game it faced in last week's loss to Hamilton.

FRIDAY

B.C. Lions (0-2) at Winnipeg Blue Bombers (0-2)

It is hard to believe that one of these teams will soon be 0-3. It's impossible to predict how the Lions will rebound from the death of team president Bob Ackles this week. The Blue Bombers have been surprisingly mediocre, especially on defence, where they were expected to excel. Look for them to get running back Charles Roberts more involved in the offence.

SATURDAY

Saskatchewan 'Riders (2-0) at Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1-1_

The matchup: Both teams enter this one coming off the high of road wins in Week 2. Hamilton quarterback Casey Printers looked much more comfortable last week when his team wasn't looking for him to win the game by himself. The Roughriders are down a handful of players due to injury, including at quarterback, where Marcus Crandell (hamstring) will give way to Darian Durant, who will make his first CFL start.
