Wild snap Pens' six-game streak

Elsewhere, McCabe scores a pair in Panthers' victory and the Blackhawks beat the Coyotes in a shootout

Wild 2, Penguins 1 (SO)

At Pittsburgh, Marek Zidlicky scored the only goal in the shootout and Minnesota benefited from a gift goal that Pittsburgh put into its own net. That proved costly for the Penguins, whose six-game winning streak was snapped.

Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom, 3-0 in shootouts this season, stopped 24 of 25 shots before turning aside Petr Sykora, Alex Goligoski and Sidney Crosby in the tiebreaker.

Minnesota's only goal in regulation was credited to Andrew Brunette at 7:57 of the first, although he had no hand — or stick — in his seventh of the season.

The Penguins needed only 10 seconds to tie it when Matt Cooke put a rebound of Jordan Staal's backhander past Backstrom, who allowed only his sixth goal in five games.

Panthers 4, Lightning 3 (SO)

At Tampa, Fla., Bryan McCabe scored twice in regulation and Nathan Horton had the lone goal in a shootout for Florida against Tampa Bay.

Tomas Vokoun made 49 saves, and David Booth added a goal for the Panthers, who have won three of four following a six-game losing streak.

Tampa Bay, which trailed by three goals in the second period, tied it 3-3 when Steve Eminger snapped a 63-game, goal-scoring drought with 2:51 left in the third.

Radim Vrbata and Evgeny Artyukhin also scored for Tampa Bay, which has lost five in a row — including two straight in shootouts — while falling to 0-2 under interim coach Rick Tocchet.

Blackhawks 3, Coyotes 2 (SO)

At Glendale, Ariz., Nikolai Khabibulin made 36 saves through overtime, then stopped two shots in the shootout as Chicago edged Phoenix.

Patrick Sharp and Jonathan Toews scored in the shootout and Sharp also had a goal in regulation for the Blackhawks, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Kris Versteeg also scored for Chicago.

Zbynek Michalek scored his first of the season and Shane Doan added the tying goal for the Coyotes, who lost their third straight.

Phoenix went to overtime for the first time this season.
