Hurricanes 3, Flyers 2 (OT)

At Philadelphia, Sergei Samsonov scored 3:53 into overtime and Carolina beat Philadelphia to end the Flyers' six-game winning streak.

Samsonov put a forehand past goaltender Martin Biron's glove side as the Hurricanes ended their three-game slide.

The Flyers, who won seven of their previous eight, were denied their longest winning streak since they won eight straight in 1999-2000.

Patrick Dwyer and Tuomo Ruutu also scored for the Hurricanes. Cam Ward stopped 24 shots, including brilliant saves on breakaways by Scottie Upshall and Jeff Carter late in the first period.

Joffrey Lupul and Carter each had a goal and an assist for the Flyers. Biron had 27 saves.

Wild 4, Lightning 2

At St. Paul, Minn., Marc-Andre Bergeron assisted on a pair of goals early in the third period for Minnesota.

With the Wild trailing 2-1, Bergeron's slap shot was tipped in by James Sheppard. The defenceman then set up Mikko Koivu's winning goal as the Wild denied new Lightning coach Rick Tocchet his first road win.

Eric Belanger scored an empty-net goal in the final minute for the Wild, who won for the first time this season when trailing after 40 minutes.

Ryan Malone scored his third goal in as many games for the Lightning, who are 1-2-3 since Tocchet took over for the fired Barry Melrose.

Coyotes 2, Avalanche 1

At Glendale, Ariz., Mikael Tellqvist stopped 37 shots in his second consecutive start for Phoenix.

Derek Morris and Kevin Porter scored and Enver Lisin added a pair of assists for the Coyotes, who won their second straight after a six-game winless streak.

The Coyotes were without centre Olli Jokinen, who strained his shoulder Wednesday in Columbus and will miss two to four weeks.

Ryan Smyth scored for the Avalanche, who lost for the fourth time in six games.

Ducks 1, Blackhawks 0

At Anaheim, Calif., Jonas Hiller made 26 saves and Ryan Getzlaf scored for the Ducks.

Getzlaf sent a backhand past Cristobal Huet with 4:41 to play in the second and Hiller made six saves in the third to secure the Ducks' third consecutive win and his second career shutout.

Hiller was starting in place of Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who left the Ducks on Tuesday due to a family matter in his native Montreal.

Hiller is 4-0 in his last six appearances, stopping 131 of 138 shots. The 26-year-old Swiss goalie earned his first career shutout against Los Angeles on Nov. 16.

Bruins 7, Islanders 2

At Boston, Blake Wheeler and David Krejci set up each other for scores 10 seconds apart in Boston's five-goal third period, helping the Bruins pull away for their 10th win in 12 games.

Michael Ryder had a pair of goals for Boston, which resumed its sizzling November pace after losing at Buffalo on Wednesday. The Bruins are 10-1-1 this month.

Chuck Kobasew, Dennis Wideman and Phil Kessel also scored for the Bruins.

Nate Thompson and Richard Park scored for the Islanders.

Manny Fernandez stopped 22 shots for Boston and is 6-0-1 after losing his first start.

Sharks 6, Stars 2

At Dallas, Dan Boyle scored two goals, Evgeni Nabokov made 25 saves and NHL-leading San Jose won its sixth straight to improve to 19-3-1.

The Sharks played for the first time in Dallas since losing to the Stars in four overtimes last season in the Western Conference semifinals.

Joe Pavelski, Milan Michalek, Rob Blake and Tomas Plihal also scored for San Jose. Loui Eriksson and James Neal scored for Dallas.

Sabres 4, Penguins 3

At Buffalo, N.Y., Paul Gaustad broke a tie with his second goal, and Drew Stafford had two goals and an assist in the Sabres' comeback victory.

Sidney Crosby scored twice, and Tyler Kennedy added a goal for Pittsburgh. Evgeni Malkin had two assists to boost his NHL-leading points total to 37, and rookie John Curry made 28 saves in his first NHL start.

Rangers 4, Panthers 3 (SO)

At Sunrise, Fla., Markus Naslund and Nikolai Zherdev scored in a shootout, and Henrik Lundqvist made 38 saves in regulation and overtime for New York.

Lundqvist allowed Rostislav Olesz's goal in the tiebreaker, then stopped the final two attempts to improve to 5-1 in shootouts this season.

Zherdev, Dan Fritsche and Aaron Voros scored in regulation for New York, and Radek Dvorak, Jay Bouwmeester and David Booth countered for Florida.

Red Wings 5, Blue Jackets 3

At Detroit, Marian Hossa scored his second goal of the game with two minutes left, and Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and assist for the Red Wings.

Jiri Hudler and Kris Draper also scored, and Chris Osgood made 13 saves. Fedor Tyutin scored twice for Columbus, and Jakub Voracek added a goal.

Predators 4, Thrashers 3 (OT)

At Atlanta, Ryan Suter beat Johan Hedberg on a breakaway 1:44 into overtime to give Nashville its first win in Atlanta since December 1999.

Dan Hamhuis and Scott Nichol each had a goal and an assist, and Jason Arnott scored his team-leading 11th goal for Nashville. Ilya Kovalchuk, Nathan Oystrick and Todd White scored for Atlanta.
