Roberts leads CFL weekly award winners

Winnipeg Blue Bombers running back Charles Roberts was named CFL offensive player of the week on Wednesday.

Roberts, a unanimous selection, had 16 carries for a season-high 154 yards and a touchdown in Winnipeg's 27-13 win over the Calgary Stampeders last week. He also had two catches for five yards.

B.C. Lions defensive end Cameron Wake was named defensive player of the week. He had eight tackles — including two sacks — and one pass knockdown in a 37-26 win over the Edmonton Eskimos.

Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive back Lance Frazier was runner-up.

B.C. running back Ian Smart was a unanimous selection for the special teams player of the week honour. He brought a punt back 81 yards for a touchdown in the Lions' victory. Smart finished with a 15.9-yard punt return average and 19-yard kickoff return average.

Toronto Argonauts linebacker Kevin Eiben was named Canadian player of the week. He had nine tackles, including a sack for a loss of 10 yards, in the Argos' 16-9 victory over the Montreal Alouettes.

Blue Bombers defensive tackle Doug Brown was also considered.
