The Toronto Blue Jays acquired right-hander Liam Hendriks from the Kansas City Royals on Thursday in exchange for catcher Santiago Nessy.

Hendriks, 25, began the regular season in the Blue Jays organization before being dealt to the Royals on July 28. Catcher Erik Kratz was also moved to Kansas City in the deal in exchange for infielder Danny Valencia.

Hendriks had a 1-2 record and 5.23 earned-run average in nine games for Toronto and Kansas City this past season. He was 8-1 with a 2.33 ERA in 18 games at Triple-A Buffalo.

Nessy, 21, was signed by the Blue Jays in 2009 and played at the Class-A minor-league level this year.
