Toronto Blue Jays infielder Maicer Izturis will need to undergo surgery to repair a torn knee ligament and could miss the rest of the season.

An MRI exam revealed a complete tear of the his lateral collateral ligament (LCL), the Blue Jays said Monday in a release.

Izturis will seek a second opinion prior to scheduling surgery. The typical recovery time for an LCL repair is four to six months.

Izturis, 33, is batting .286 in 11 games this season.

He was placed on the 15-day disabled list after suffering the injury Sunday.
