The Toronto Blue Jays have placed first baseman Dan Johnson on the 15-day disabled list and recalled reliever Chad Jenkins from the minors.

Johnson, who hit .235 in his first 13 games with the Blue Jays, has a left hamstring strain, according to the team.

Recalling Jenkins from triple-A Buffalo restores Toronto's bullpen to the more traditional seven pitchers out of the bullpen. The Blue Jays had been going with six since sending Rob Rasmussen down when they activated Nolan Reimold off the DL.

Jenkins, a 26-year-old right-hander, has a 3.72 earned-run average in 15 appearances for the Blue Jays this season.

Earlier in the day, the Blue Jays lost Esmil Rogers to the New York Yankees after putting the pitcher on waivers.

The Blue Jays begin a four-game series at the Houston Astros on Thursday night.
