It doesn't count as a free-agent win, but Toronto Blue Jays assistant general manager Tony LaCava formally turned down the Baltimore Orioles' G.M.'s job on Tuesday, according to club sources.

LaCava is the right hand man of Blue Jays G.M. Alex Anthopoulos and is a highly-respected talent evaluator who has been courted by other teams in recent seasons. It's another sign of how much of a mess the Orioles have become under the ownership of Peter Angelos and his sons, and some candidates for the job have expressed concern also about the amount of influence manager Buck Showalter has on personnel decisions.
