John Farrell has pneumonia.

The rookie manager of the Toronto Blue Jays was forced to leave Thursday night's game at Rogers Centre against the Kansas City Royals in the ninth inning after complaining about muscle pain on his left side below the rib cage.

Farrell was initially told by Blue Jays medical personnel that he was experiencing a muscle spasm but the decision was made to send the 49-year-old to hospital for further examination.

Earlier this morning the Blue Jays issued a news release stating that Farrell has been diagnosed with pneumonia, has been released from hospital, and is expected to return to the team today.

The Blue Jays will play the first of a four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays beginning Friday night at Rogers Cenrtre.

In other news, an MRI on the right wrist of Blue Jay Travis Snider, who has been playing with the team's Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas, has revealed he is suffering from tendonitis.

Snider will be required to rest the wrist from between four to six weeks which likely means his 2011 baseball season is through.
