The Toronto Blue Jays placed closer Sergio Santos on the paternity list Friday and recalled left-hander Evan Crawford from double-A New Hampshire.
Santos flew to California on Wednesday after earning the save in Toronto's 3-1 win over the Boston Red Sox to join his wife for the birth of their second son. With the Blue Jays having Thursday off, he was expected to rejoin the team in time for Friday's game against Baltimore.
Teams can place a player on the paternity list for a least one day and a maximum of three.
The 25-year-old Crawford is 0-0 with a 0.00 earned-run average with New Hampshire. He has allowed three hits and two walks over four innings with five strikeouts.
Last season, Crawford made 45 appearances in relief for New Hampshire, posting a 3-5 record with two saves and a 3.35 ERA.
