Fred Lewis's season is through for the Toronto Blue Jays.

The outfielder who has batted leadoff most of the season for the American League club left the team on Thursday to prepare for surgery on a bunion on his left foot.

The Blue Jays could not say when the surgery will take place, only that it will be conducted by Dr. Angus McBryde in Birmingham, Ala.

Lewis batted .262 with 36 RBI and a team-high 17 stolen bases in 110 games this season after coming over to the Blue Jays in an early-season trade with the San Francisco Giants.

He also had his season cut short in 2008 when he had surgery on his right big toe on Sept. 12th.
