Kings add Alex English as assistant coach Add to ...

A week after replacing head coach Paul Westphal with Keith Smart, the Sacramento Kings have added Alex English as an assistant coach, the team announced Friday.

The NBA Hall of Famer had previously spent seven seasons as an assistant coach and the director of player development for the Toronto Raptors.

Smart welcomed the addition, saying in a statement announcing the hiring that he thought English’s high-profile status as a player would be beneficial to the team’s players.

English is the NBA’s 13th all-time leading scorer with 25,613 points as well as an eight-time All-Star. He was elected into the Hall of Fame in 1997.

After the Kings got off to a 2-5 start under Westphal, they have gone 2-2 under Smart.
