The Montreal Alouettes re-signed Canadian linebacker Marc-Olivier Brouillette to a three-year deal Wednesday.

The six-foot, 222-pound Montreal native was slated to become a free agent Feb. 15. The Alouettes selected the former Montreal Carabins quarterback in the third round, 23rd overall, in the 2010 CFL draft.

"This is a huge signing for the organization," Montreal GM and head coach Jim Popp said in a statement. "Marco has fast become one of the most versatile players in the CFL.

"He will always be in competition for a starting job but his value to the team is in his intelligence, leadership, and work ethic. He is a great role model and an employee that any business would be fortunate to have working for them."

The 27-year-old has also played safety with Montreal and last year forced four fumbles, two of which were returned for touchdowns.
