It's been an uplifting off-season for Toronto Argonauts quarterback Ricky Ray.

The 36-year-old says he's throwing pain-free for the first time in two years.

Ray had off-season shoulder surgery following the 2014 campaign and missed Toronto's first 15 games last season before returning to the lineup.

Ray started Toronto's final two regular-season games completing 47-of-65 passes for 423 yards with two TDs and one interception.

He also started Toronto's 25-22 loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the East Division semifinal.

Ray's ability to stay healthy this year will be crucial for the Argos as backup Trevor Harris, who led Toronto to a 9-7 record in Ray's absence, signed with Ottawa as a free agent this off-season.

Ray signed a two-year contract extension with Toronto this off-season.
