After 10 seasons, 501 catches, 6,756 yards and a Grey Cup championship, Canadian receiver Jason Clermont has announced his retirement.

The CFL veteran, who last season played for his hometown Saskatchewan Roughriders, confirmed Tuesday he was leaving the game, “effective immediately.”

“Growing up in Saskatchewan, it was a childhood dream to catch passes for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in a Grey Cup game,” Clermont said in a statement. “I would like to thank the Saskatchewan Roughrider organization, fans and especially all of my teammates and friends for helping that dream become a reality not once, but twice (in 2009, 2010, both losses to the Montreal Alouettes).”

Clermont played his university and junior football in Regina before being drafted fourth overall by the B.C. Lions in 2002. He spent seven seasons with the Lions, where he was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie in 2002, Most Outstanding Canadian in 2004 and 2007 and a CFL all-star in 2007.

He was also a contributor to the Lions 2006 Grey Cup win over Montreal.

Clermont eventually signed with the ‘Riders as a free agent. In three seasons with Saskatchewan, he was used as a situational player yet still caught 73 passes for 849 yards. He retired having scored 38 career touchdowns.

Clermont will remain in Regina with his wife and three children.
