Running back and return specialist Tim Brown has signed a contract extension with the B.C. Lions.

The West Division all-star appeared in all 18 regular-season games for the Lions this past season. He was second in the CFL with 914 punt return yards, third in kickoff return yards (1,303) and fourth in missed field goal return yards (165).

"Tim has been one of our most consistent players over the past two seasons," Lions general manager Wally Buono said Thursday in a release.

"His big-play capability and determination to get positive yards on every return has been a crucial element of our success and we're counting on more from Tim in 2013."

Brown was second in the CFL this year with 2,687 all-purpose yards. It was also the second-highest single-season total in franchise history behind Ian Smart's 2,744 yards in 2008.

"This is a fantastic day for me," Brown said. "I'm thankful for what my teammates allowed me to accomplish as an individual these past two seasons and I'm already thinking about next season and what we can achieve as a team."

Brown, a 28-year-old native of Stockton, Calif., finished with 2,382 kick return yards on the season, the ninth-highest total in league history.
