Hamilton Tiger-Cats' wide receiver Dave Stala celebrates

Dave Stala is back with the Montreal Alouettes.

The veteran slotback signed a two-year deal with the Alouettes on Friday, a day after he was released by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Stala spent his first six CFL seasons with Montreal before joining the Ticats as a free agent.

The Alouettes also signed receiver Geoff Coventry to a three-year deal.

"We are happy we have the opportunity to bring Dave back to his original team so that we can make use of his versatility and give him the chance to finish his career in Montreal," Montreal coach/GM Jim Popp said in a statement. "Dave is a great teammate, a dependable player, a community guy, and a fan favourite."

Stala, 34, had 263 receptions for 3,336 yards and 20 TDs in 86 regular-season games with Hamilton.

Coventry, 24, spent five years with the Bishop's Gaiters, helping the club post a 6-2 record last year. The native of Orleans, Ont., had 37 catches for 525 yards and two TDs.
