The Canadian Tour is working towards staging an event in Eastern Ontario in 2012.
According to the Kingston Whig Standard, David Dargie is working with the Tour to bring a tournament to Gananoque next year. The event is tentatively scheduled for the first week in September at Smuggler's Glen Golf Course.
Dargie, who has past experience staging provincial and national multi-sport events, has partnered with Evolution Consultants of Brockville to find the $300,000 budget needed to stage a Canadian Tour event.
"I'm counting on it (happening)," Dargie told the newspaper. "We've got a pretty good commitment to go find the money in terms of a business plan."
Dargie said he hopes to strike a four year deal with the Canadian Tour which would see the event move around to different parts of Eastern Ontario, such as Kingston.
The Canadian Tour has been looking to create more of a presence in Eastern Canada. Only two of its eight Canadian-based events in 2011 were staged east of Manitoba - one in Seaforth, Ontario and the other in Windsor.
While the future of the Seaforth event is in doubt, the Tour is hopeful of returning to Windsor next year while adding new events in the Toronto region as well as Dargie's event in Gananoque.
