Alena Sharp

Alena Sharp fired a final round 73 which was good enough to win the Grasshopper Tour event in Phoenix on Thursday.

The Hamilton, Ont., golfer held off a charge by Jessi Gebhardt, who shot a 67 on the final day but finished four shots back at Lone Tree Golf Club. It was the second straight event Sharp has won, having claimed the title at the season opening tournament at Seville Golf and Country Club.

The first year women's mini-tour consists of LPGA members, club professionals and aspiring amateurs.

Meanwhile, Canada's Sue Kim shot a final round 72 to finish second in a SunCoast Ladies Series event on Thursday.

The Langley, B.C., golfer finished five strokes behind South Korea's Misun Cho in the member only Winter Championship at Timacuan Golf Club. it was her third top-5 result in four events this year and comes on the heels of her first win on the Tour two weeks ago.

Kim leads both the points list and money list.

Danielle Mills of Pointe-Claire, Que., and Charlottetown's Lorie Kane, who is coming off a solid set of results in Australia and New Zealand, finished tied for seventh. Mills earned a sponsor's bounus for shooting the low score of the final round (70).

Sara-Maude Juneau of Fossambault, Que. was 12th, Victoria Thompson of Akwesasne, Ont., finished 34th and Toronto amateur Brogan McKinnon, a member of Golf Canada's Team Canada Developmental squad, ended up 55th.
