Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn

Tiger Woods confirmed he is in a romantic relationship with world champion skier Lindsey Vonn.

"Lindsey and I have been friends for some time, but over the last few months we have become very close and are now dating," Woods wrote Monday on his facebook page which included several pictures of the couple. "We thank you for your support and for respecting our privacy. We want to continue our relationship, privately, as an ordinary couple and continue to compete as athletes."

Vonn issued a similar confirmation on her Twitter and Facebook pages, joking it wasn't a well kept secret.

"Our relationship evolved from a friendship into something more over these past few months and it has made me very happy," Vonn wrote.

The public admission of the relationship comes exactly one year after Tiger won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, his first PGA win in 30 months following a sex scandal.

The 38-year-old Woods, whose marriage to Elin Nordegren fell apart in 2009 following revelations of extra marital affairs, had been linked with Vonn since last year. The two met at a charity event in April and reportedly started seeing each other romantically in November. The 28-year-old Olympian, whose divorce from fellow skier Thomas Vonn was finalized earlier this year, had also been spotted giving skiing lessons to Tiger's children, Sam and Charlie.

After Vonn suffered a horrific accident February 5 while competing in Austria, Woods sent his private jet to ferry the Olympic champion home where she underwent surgery on her knee.

Following his win at the WGC-Cadillac Championship last week, reports surfaced that Woods and Vonn spent the weekend aboard his yacht "Privacy". While the two continued to be coy about their relationship, it was noted by several publications that Woods brought his ex-wife to the same spot off the Florida coast before their marriage fell apart in 2009.
