Hollis Stacy

Hollis Stacy has been named to the 2012 class of the World Golf Hall of Fame and Museum. The four time LPGA major winner was selected through the Veterans Category.

LPGA commissioner Michael Whan called it a well deserved honor for Stacy.

"Hollis was always known as an extremely competitive player with an impeccable short game and one of the most creative golf minds of her time<" said Whan. "More importantly, she will long be remembered as a truly nice person with a passion for golf and life. She is an ambassador for women's golf and we could not be more proud of her."

Stacy won 18 times during her 26-year LPGA career. In one stretch from 1977 to 1983, she posted 82 top-10 results. She won U.S. Women's Open championships in 1977, 1978 and 1984 and her fourth major title came in 1983, when she won the Peter Jackson Classic which was later named the du Maurier Classic, the precursor to today's CN Canadian Women's Open.

Stacy charged onto the golf scene by winning consecutive U.S. Girls' Junior Championship titles from 1969-71 and remains the only player ever to win that event three times.

"I'm just overwhelmed," said Stacy. "I am humbled and so excited. It's such a great honor to be in the same group with friends like JoAnne Carner, Nancy Lopez, Patty Sheehan, Betsy King and Mickey Wright."

Stacy will be inducted into the Hall along with PGA player Phil Mickelson at a ceremony on May 7th, the Monday of The Players Championship week. The Hall of Fame will round out the class of 2012 by announcing the inductees from the International Ballott and Lifetime Achievement categories in the coming weeks.
