Royal Montreal Golf Club is in the hunt to play host to the RBC Canadian Open.
In response to a report in the Montreal Gazette Thursday, Golf Canada confirms that Canada's only PGA Tour event could possibly be headed back to one of North America's oldest golf clubs in 2014.
"We've had discussions with a number of clubs as potential future host venues for the RBC Canadian Open but at this point, nothing is confirmed," said Golf Canada CEO Scott Simmons. "Royal Montreal has been a great partner and supporter of Canadian golf throughout its storied history. We hope to be in a position to confirm future host venues for 2013 and 2014 in the coming months."
Royal Montreal has hosted Canada's Open championship a total of nine times, the last being in 2001. That was also the last time Tiger Woods played in the event, finishing in a tie for 23rd a year after he won the Canadian Open at Glen Abbey.
Royal Montreal also played host to the 2007 Presidents Cup, the first time that the event was held outside the United States.
Hamilton Golf and Country Club is set to play host to the RBC Canadian Open in 2012 with the tournament very likely returning to Glen Abbey in 2013.
The Gazette adds that aside from 2014, the national championship is likely to return to the Montreal area in 2017 once renovations are completed on the Blue Course at Laval-sur-le-Lac.
