Ryan Yip broke into the top 10 among Canadian pro golfers following his victory at the Asian Development Tour's PGM Port Dickson Championship. A rookie on the Asian Tour this year, the Calgary golfer carded a final round 63 to come from five shots off the pace to win by a single stroke in his first appearance at a development tour event this year. It was Yip's first win since capturing the Jane Rogers Championship on the former Canadian Tour back in 2009. The victory also moved him up 234 spots in the world rankings and vaulted him from No. 14 in Canada into the top 10 at No. 9.
On the amateur side, Corey Conners reclaimed the No. 1 ranking from former Kent State teammate and friend Taylor Pendrith, picking up six spots this past week.
Austin James made the biggest move of the week, climbing 151 spots up to No. 8 in the Canadian rankings after finishing in a tie for 12th at the Rees Jones Invitational. It was the first top-15 result in only the second event of the year for the sophomore at Charleston Southern, who captured the Canadian Junior Boys Championship earlier this summer.
Jack Woods of Banff, Alberta, climbed 101 spots after finishing in a tie for second at the Western Washington University Invitational, which was won by UBC teammate Evan Holmes. Woods fired a final round 64 which equalled the lowest score ever recorded in school history as the Thunderbirds repeated as champions. He also moved into the top 20 in the Canadian rankings, settling in at No. 19
Also making his top 20 debut was Brian Jung of Coquitlam, B.C.. The junior at Oregon State finished tied for 17th at the Kikkor Husky Invitational to move up 116 spots in the world rankings. It was his fifth top-20 finish career finish.
On the women's side, Megan Osland of Kelowna, B.C. gained 99 spots following her victory at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate. It was the first collegiate tournament win for the senior at San Jose State as she took the first event of the season by a convincing seven strokes. Osland climbed to No. 12 in the Canadian rankings, up from No. 17 the previous week.
A Ram Choi of Surrey, B.C., climbed 25 spots after finishing second at the WSU Cougar Cup, two shots behind the winner. The senior out of Portland State had nine birdies in the tournament and has 29 total through three events this season.
