Colorado Avalanche forward Cody McLeod has been suspended for five games for boarding Detroit Red Wings defenceman Niklas Kronwall during a game last Thursday.

McLeod was assessed a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for boarding when he hit Kronwall at 2:13 of the first period in Detroit's 4-2 win in Denver.

Kronwall suffered a concussion on the play. He has since resumed skating with the Red Wings.

The suspension will cost McLeod US$29,487.20. It is the first time he has been fined or suspended in his seven-year career.
